Community Update

I’ve written in the past about the importance of giving back to the community – a value instilled in me by my late father and fellow Northstar Co-Founder, Moses Taylor. I am happy to share some news about my growing involvement in Denver’s nonprofit community.

Last month, I was honored to be elected chairman of the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation Board of Directors. My service to Children’s dates back two decades and includes serving as the foundation’s vice-chair and treasurer. For 18 years, I also led the investment committee for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Health System.

My father was one of the Foundation’s original trustees and served on the board for 24 years, so I grew up with a good understanding of Children’s impact on the well-being of Colorado’s kids. I became even more well-acquainted with Children’s work when my son suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of seven. The hospital provided my son with top-notch care and offered my family the support we needed during a very scary and challenging time. I am glad to report that my son is now a healthy 29-year-old with a daughter of his own.

I am proud to be of service to this amazing institution and look forward to leading the foundation over the next two years. On another note, my wife Claudia and I are excited about serving as honorary co-chairs of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s 2019 Annual Luncheon. The event will be held on October 11, 2019 at the Colorado Convention Center and will feature two speakers this year: Noor Tagouri, a prominent Muslim-American journalist and documentarian; and Maysoon Zayid, an actress, comedian, writer and disability advocate.

I was a member of the Women’s Foundation board from 2008 to 2012 and served as chairman of the organization’s investment committee. I also helped found Dads for Daughters, a charitable program of the Foundation, which connects supportive dads, granddads, uncles, brothers, to advance and accelerate economic opportunities for women and their families.

As the father of a daughter, I am big believer in supporting efforts to empower and enable women to reach their full potential. I encourage you to check out this video, which explains more about the motivation behind my involvement in the Women’s Foundation.
