Philanthropic Leadership

I am proud to share that I was one of four business leaders selected as a 2017 Philanthropic Leadership Award winner by The Denver Foundation. The awards recognize professional advisors who have distinguished themselves as champions of philanthropy and the charitable community. In its 14 years of handing out the awards, The Foundation has honored 48 advisors.

I’m thrilled to be part of this growing group of professionals and consider it a tribute to my father, Moses (Tony) Taylor, who established a strong legacy of community involvement during his life. He served on the boards of many Denver institutions, including the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Boy’s Club of Denver. My father raised me to believe that we all have a responsibility to contribute to the betterment of our communities and I have taken that commitment seriously.

Following my father’s footsteps, I am a longtime board member of the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, serving as vice-chairman and treasurer as well as chairman of the hospital’s investment committee. As I mentioned in a previous post, my involvement in Children’s is rooted in a deep appreciation for all the hospital did to help my son recover from a health crisis when he was a boy.

Yet, other causes have also drawn my interest over the years. Last year, I was appointed to the CollegeInvest Board of Directors by Governor John Hickenlooper. I also serve on the Colorado State Land Boards five-person public school investment fund board. I am also a past chairman of the investment committees of The Denver Foundation, the Colorado Zoological Trust, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado and Kent Denver School.

I was happy be surrounded by friends and family when I accepted the Philanthropic Leadership Award on November 17 at a reception at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. While I was humbled by the recognition, I don’t give my time in order to earn accolades, but to hopefully make a difference in the state I love.
